When furniture
becomes art.

Art and furniture are often treated as separate layers: one expressive, the other useful. This edition asks what happens when the artwork leaves the wall and enters the object.

The correlation

Surface can carry
authorship.

Painting, pattern, textile and relief move expression from the wall into the object. Furniture stops behaving like a neutral support and begins participating in the room’s visual language.

The strongest examples keep function legible while allowing material and image to create identity. Utility does not require neutrality. An object can store, display or produce sound—and still feel authored.
