One Image Leads
to Another.

The correlation
A useful reference carries a relationship forward while transforming its form.
References become useful when we follow where they can lead.
This sequence begins with an abstract shape that recalls a palm. A tropical waterfall gives that recognition context and atmosphere. Jacob Hutchinson isolates the shadows cast by vegetation and turns observation into a graphic language. A palm shadow then gives an architectural surface a temporary identity. In Astrid Krogh’s Ikat I, the surface no longer waits to receive light: woven optical fibres generate an atmosphere of their own.
These images are not united by category or style. Each carries one relationship forward while changing its material, scale and purpose. The palm becomes a place; the place becomes an observation; the observation becomes a visual system; the projected image becomes a luminous surface.
This is how collecting references becomes design thinking: not by copying a finished appearance, but by translating an underlying behavior until it produces something new. The value of an archive is not only what it contains. It is the path one reference creates toward another.
